Description

This chapter investigates the textual metafunction in Martin (1992), exploring its model of reference and emphasising its dependence on the resources available in the experiential metafunction to create messages. Clearly choices from the textual metafunction are realised within clauses, but it is within the framework of discourse semantics that they can best be understood and related to other metafunctions.
