Description

Chapter 9 is a set of vignettes written by linguists around the world. Each one explains his/her specific field of linguistics, commenting on the kinds of research and applications each perspective involves. Topics included are, from a theoretical perspective, cognitive linguistics, formal linguistics and functional linguistics, from a descriptive perspective, computational linguistics, contrastive linguistics, corpus linguistics, and historical linguistics, and from an applied perspective, clinical linguistics, critical discourse analysis, educational linguistics, forensic linguistics, psycholinguistics, and sociolinguistics.
