Description
This chapter focuses on the interrelation between experiential lexicogrammar and (discourse) semantic patterns in SFL. First, the congruent interrelations between types of figures and clause types are addressed. The chapter then briefly reviews the nature of non-congruent relations between figures in (discourse) semantics and lexicogrammatical patterns, as captured by the notion of ideational metaphor. The discussion then moves on to ways in which experiential lexicogrammar has been shown in SFL to contribute to an understanding of field in the analysis of situated texts. Different theoretical perspectives and analytical models drawing on experiential lexicogrammar in analysis of situated texts. Different theoretical perspectives and analytical models drawing on experiential lexicogrammar are discussed throughout the chapter.
