Using the recent scholarly controversy of suggesting that our approach to understanding transgender identities may have implications for studies of what some call transracial identities, this chapter invites Leslie Dorrough Smith to consider the wider implications of the sorts of comparisons that are necessary for scholars to carry out their work—comparisons exemplified in her chapter.
