Hany T.A. Ibrahim obtained his PhD in Religious Studies from the University of Calgary. He has taught at King AbdulAziz University in Jeddah, KSA and is currently teaching Islamic and Arabic Studies at the University of Calgary and Mount Royal University in Calgary, Canada. He is a specialist in pre-modern Islamic thought, Arabic Sufi literature, Arabic language, modern Arabic literature, and Islamic art and architecture.
Description
This chapter outlines Ibn ‘Arabī’s ontology by carefully examining his major metaphysical teachings, especially the concept of the “Oneness of Being,” and describes how he uses his symbolic language as a form of expressing his metaphysics. The chapter also seeks to contextualize certain ideas in his oeuvre that directly inform our exposition of love in the following chapter.
