Description

This chapter presents the model of tone-sonority interaction which is employed in the analyses of vocalic neutralisation patterns attested in East Slavic. I suggest that the interaction between tone and vowel quality is regulated by a set of constraints derived through the harmonic alignment of the sonority scale with the tonal prominence scale.
