Hadrian Aleksandr Lankiewicz is the holder of D. Litt. in applied linguistics and PhD in literary studies, and three MA diplomas (in history, English studies and Italian language and culture). He is currently an Associate Professor and the head of the Department of Applied Linguistics at the University of Gdańsk, Poland. His academic interests oscillate between history, American literature and applied linguistics, with the primary focus on language acquisition and foreign language teaching methodology. In recent years, his research has been inspired by the application of an ecological metaphor to the study of language and its learning. Drawing on the concept of multi-competence and political autonomy in the process of language learning, he concentrated on issues of marginalization, empowerment and legitimization in the use of English as a foreign language.
