Description
Like other religions, Paganism has adapted existing traditions into new forms. It emerged from 19th century Romanticism bringing together different philosophies and mythologies. Cultural appropriation as a concept was part of the critique of colonialism in the 1970s. Often with little material to work with from their own pre-Christian traditions, many Pagans do appropriate from colonised cultures, decontextualising them in the process.
